Porter-17 months

I cannot believe Porter is already 17 months and that he'll be a YEAR AND A HALF in just one short month! I figured these pictures from yesterday (the day he was 17months) were very appropriate =) This age is definitely the most "whiney"! He was mad because he found a snickers bar digging in my purse (that Brad had given him as a trick or treat happy) and I had put it away on top of the fridge...He stood there looking at it and reaching for it for at least 10 minutes! SCREAMING at the top of his lungs the ENTIRE time! Scroll down to see what else Porter is doing besises whining ;)
yes, those are real tears

What we're up to:

  • saying all animal sounds (cow, sheep, dog, snake is favorite)
  • can point to nose, ear, eye, teeth, head
  • can sign "more" "all done" "dog" and sometimes "mama"
  • "mama" "ball" and "shoe" are his favorite words
  • loves to look at pictures in the frames around the house and can point out who everyone is
  • loves to put his shoes on!
  • loves to play outside and swing
  • loves any type of ball
  • likes to get into things he's not supposed to!
  • is down to one nap a day
  • still sleeps a long time at night though
  • tries really hard to eat with his fork
  • favorite foods: chicken nuggets, carrots, broccoli, CHEESE, eggs, bread/crackers & anything he can "dip"
  • is saying a lot of words and adding more constantly!
  • loves to dance =)
  • loves his passy and blanket (he calls both night-night and cannot sleep)
  • loves to watch elmo and "icky" (mickey mouse)
  • favorite toys are still keys, remote, cell phone, camera, etc.
  • is a climber! i caught him trying to climb on dining table today!
  • undresses himself when he's alone or in his crib (just about every morning I find him with his pants thrown out of the crib)
  • loves dogs & all animals
  • loves Daddy and gets so excited when he comes home
  • sings in the car or when he's sleepy (saying "la la la fa lala fa lalala")
  • talks to himself in his crib before naptime
  • knows what "time-out" means and does not like it! He has to sit on the second stair and he knows not to get up!
  • is very sweet and loves to give love by laying his head on your shoulder--so sweet

halloween carnival

After trick or treating Tuesday, we took Porter to the Halloween carnival in the junction. He was a little small for all the games but he loved getting candy and just running around! We missed his age group costume contest by about 5 minutes =( but I'm sure he would have won!

There was a guy dressed up as a scary creature that Porter was obsessed with--just didn't want to get too close to!

he'll give just about anyone high five--except this thing!

more polamalu...

We (Porter) decided we were NOT going to wear the steelers helmet...so we improvised! Here's how he went to practice then trick-or-treating yesterday! He looked so cute and LOVED going to practice all dressed up, then getting candy from strangers! He really loved his Mike & Ike's!

I forgot my picture when we went out to practice so I had to take the pics on my phone, but Porter wouldn't be still so they're a little blurry!

Trick or Treat!

So, last year when I got Porter's halloween costume, Ryan didn't like it (he was a horse), so he decided that he would get to pick this year....this is the result!

The Inspiration:

Porter Hollern as Troy Polamalu:
not too happy

we may have to trim the hair just a tad before tonight ;)
and if you look close he is wearing real cleats! who knew they made baby cleats??!!

I had to bribe him with chocolate just for him to keep the helmet on!

We're going trick-or-treating tonight on campus so I'm sure I'll have some more pics to post tomorrow!! Hopefully we can keep the helmet on!

Go STATE!

It was a COLD Homecoming yesterday! There was about a 30 degree drop from tailgating to the end of the game! We had fun though, especially because we WON!!

Get this Monkey off my back! (Porter isn't too fond of his monkey leash)

Lane--practicing her Cheering!

Lane liked having Porter on a leash =)

it's started already...

I remember the days when I could take Porter into any store and he was totally oblivious to all of the fun toys, candy, balloons, balls, etc, etc. around....not so much anymore! Porter LOVES balls--I mean really loves balls--doesn't matter what kind they are (baseball, football, basketball, golf ball) or if they aren't even actual balls (pumpkins, peas, nana's chandelier, or basically anything round), if he sees one he immediately points and says "baawl" over and over and over. Well about three weeks ago he started seeing the big bins of balls at wal-mart and various other stores, and of course he was scream & yell until you let him hold one--of course Ryan always bought him one (I do not) just so he wouldn't have to hear him scream!! He also does this with balloons in the checkout lines but I usually ignore him even though I know all the people in line around us are probably thinking I should just buy him the $1 balloon so he'll shut up (I know, I've had 2 people recently tell me I should just give it to him). I don't.
Well today Porter took it to the next (monetary at least) level. As we were walking down the aisle (not even in the toy section--tricky walmart) Porter sees the big bright display of the NEW Elmo Live (he tells jokes, sings, etc.) and of course goes crazy pointing and laughing. So I (being an idiot) picks one up to see what it does and show Porter. He LOVED it! And of course when it was time to put away (the $60) Elmo, Porter goes hysterical. Luckily we were about to go through the Christmas section so once he saw all the ornaments (balls) he was completly distracted. I decided when we got home to go in the garage (when we moved we kept Porter's toys boxed up and we'll bring one out every now and then--it's great, he thinks he's getting something"new" every time!)and get out tickle me Elmo for him to play with. Of course he didn't want it, not now when Elmo live does so much more! Stupid Fisher Price.

Pop comes to visit...

Last weekend Pop (my Dad) came for a quick weekend visit! Porter had so much fun with him! We went to Columbia Thursday night and went to the Columbia High football game on Friday night--it was my first time back to my high school for a football game since I graduated--everyone looked so young and the football game was very different from the games I'm used to now =) The main reason we were there was my Dad's 1978 football team was having a special 30 year reunion; that team was the first and only team to go undefeated at Columbia High and they were honored with a pre-game social and recognized at half time! It was alot of fun and I know my Dad loved showing Porter off!

The "10-0" team!

porter in his cute shirt I made him for the game! (it said go cats)

seeing the mascot "wildcat" which he loved! he kept pointing and saying "caaat"

Before going to the game on Friday, we spent the morning playing at Nana's house--Porter loves it there and he had alot of fun playing with the cat's.
porter followed pop wherever he went!
"whee"
once he saw the "balls" (nana's chandelier--see pic above) that's all he would say & point to!
laughing with the cat--it was not scared of Porter at all!
And one of the best parts of the weekend was driving back so Starkville and seeing the Bulldogs beat (13th ranked) Vanderbilt!!! It was a fun game and of course Porter loved everything (even though he slept for 3 quarters of the game) and he really loved his new cowbell!
ringing his cowbell! (he fell asleep about 5 minutes after this & slept the ENTIRE game!)

To the Pumpkin Patch we go...

"ball!"

in the patch

"piggy!"

picnic lunch

excited about the hay ride!

Mary Carlat (Porter loves playing with her!!)

trying to get him to sit & smile (while looking at the camera)--Never worked!!

Yesterday we went to Eupora to May's Farm for a hay ride and a visit to the Pumpkin Patch! Porter LOVED it! He was so good and loved going to the pumpkin patch and pick out his "ball" as he kept calling the pumpkins! We had a picnic lunch afterwards and Porter had a great time with all of the other kids. I made him the pumpkin applique shirt he's wearing the morning we left! It turned out really cute and was perfect for the pumpkin patch!

Several people asked about it and I'm making a few extra to put on etsy--I'll put a link on here as soon as I get it set up! But if anyone wants one, they're $12 (longsleeve) & $10 (shortsleeve)--on heavy white tee shirts (the girl tee shirts have a pleat at the sleeves so they're a little more girly!) they can also have a name on them (no extra charge)! I can also make the pumpkin a Jack-0-Lantern for Halloween, but I like the pumpkin because it can be worn after halloween too!

Just email me at keelytolar@yahoo.com!

I'm also working on VERY CUTE turkey applique shirt for thanksgiving! Hopefully I'll have a boy & girl sample finished and on etsy next week in time for Thanksgiving!

Update on Porter!

I will have to remember next time to let Nana know next time Porter is "sick" before she reads it on the blog!! I think she read it late last night & I had a voicemail when I woke up this morning from a very worried Nana!! Sorry Nana!!
Anyway Porter is MUCH better, but not before he got much worse =( Poor thing woke up this morning and his eyes were almost completely swollen shut (he looked so bad I wouldn't even take a picture) and was still covered head to toe in welts and hives! He looked pitiful and just kept rubbing his eyes(probably wondering why he couldn't open them!) so I called the pediatrician's office as soon as they opened and they could see us right then. The good news is they still don't think it's anything serious (no fever, breathing problems, doesn't feel bad, etc.); they still dont' know what caused it--but after a large dose of steroids and some allegra along with more benadryl, the hives are almost completely gone! Thank goodness!!
The doctor did tell me that he might start acting crazy or more aggressive with even more temper tantrums on the steroids (because of the high dose she was putting him on) though! She even called it "baby roid rage"! Hopefully we won't have that!!

poor pitiful porter :(

We had a GREAT weekend (especially watching the dawgs beat vandy!!!) and I have tons of pictures to post of our very busy weekend, but I just had to post these sad pictures of Porter =( He has some type of rash--it started yesterday around 3 as just a few small hives and bumps--and by the time we got home from taking Pop to the airport around 8 he was COMPLETELY COVERED in swollen hives from head to toe! After TWO doses of benadryl, it was steadily getting worse so we decided to take him to the ER to be checked out to make sure it was nothing serious...well the good news is he feels absolutely fine and the Dr. in the ER thinks that it's nothing bad, but the bad news is they have no idea what it is or what is causing it and it is still the same today! It spread today to his face during his nap and he just looks so pitiful with swollen eyes =( We're taking benadryl three times a day and will probably be in the pediatricians office tomorrow if it is still the same! It actually looks much worse than even the pictures show--but besides being a little more sleepy from all the benadryl, Porter feels absolutely fine!! Hopefully they will pinpoint what is causing it and it will go away soon!!

some new applique's

I recently bought some cute applique designs and have been wanting to try to make a few...this morning I woke up before Porter and since it was cooler today I decided to make him a long sleeve applique shirt for him to wear--it turned out really cute and was much easier than I thought it would be!

I didn't get a pic of the shirt before Porter woke up and we had to leave, so when he woke up from his nap, I made him stand on the stairs so I could get a picture of the shirt...as you can see he was not happy about being a model =) (don't worry, he quit crying as soon as he saw his lunch at his new table--see below!)

So when he took his nap, I decided to try to make another! Since Halloween is coming up soon, I made him a Jack-o-Lantern applique romper:tern app

New big boy table!

Porter is very observant of other kids, especially our (almost) 3 year old neighbor Mary Carlett. He loves to play with her outside and tries to copy everything she does! Well a few days ago we were outside and MC was eating her lunch at her outdoor picnic table--Porter immediately went over and sat down just like she was and looked up at me as if to say "ok, so where is my food?!" So I got him a snack and he sat there so good and ate--I couldn't believe it! Mary Carlett even shared one of her juice boxes with him!

So yesterday I went and got him a little table that we can use inside & outside. As soon as I put it up, he just wanted to sit at it and play! We had a snack sitting there yesterday, and today he ate his lunch at the table!
