Louisiana Children's Museum

A few weekends ago, it was National Museum Day, and several museums had free admission! So I figured what better day to take Porter to the Louisiana Children's Museum in New Orleans! I went when I was little and I still remember how much fun I had! It was neat to go back more than 20 years later and see alot of the same exhibits and activities! Porter had a blast, and thanks to Mimi for buying us a yearly pass so we can enjoy the museum a lot morhis year!!

we got there a few minutes before they opened, and you can see Porter was READY:

The first exhibit he saw, and I didn't think we'd ever get him to leave:

who dat!!

Another full weekend of football!! The Saints had their first (regular) season game today, and we had a blast at the game (winning sure doesn't hurt!)! I will say that watching the MSU game last night was not nearly as stressful as last year, but the Saints game was even more stressful--so all of my game "nervousness" has just transferred teams =)!

Can't wait until the next home game!! GEAUX SAINTS!!! here are some pics from gameday:

getting ready to leave for the game...you know I wasn't going to let Porter wear a jersey--I HAD to make him a "cute" outfit for the game ;)

Porter was definitely in awe when we first got there:

we had great seats:
halftime lunch break in club level lounge:

so excited (brees had SIX td's)! whoo hoo!!

no, I do not know these nice girls, but Porter loved them and took this picture all by himself!! I was taking pics of him and he asked to see the camera (he really likes taking pictures these days), he then proceeded to turn around and tell them to say "cheese"...this is the first picture by porter that has ever turned out! (he usually has the camera turned the wrong way and just ends up taking closeup pics of his face ;)

needless to say he was WORN out! can't wait until the next home game!

some observations from the game:
  1. ryan should ALWAYS listen to me when it comes to directions
  2. the superdome is cold (luckily ryan was at the tulane game the night before and had warned me!) the girl that sat beside me obviously knew this too since she brought a BLANKET!
  3. superdome food is GOOD
  4. men will not follow directions
  5. the "saintsations" are no dallas cowboy cheerleaders--they're not even on the same level as msu pom squad!
  6. porter (and ryan) still liked them ;)
  7. people will pay more for one beer than an entire six pack costs
  8. the "jumbo tron" isn't really that jumbo--especially compared to msu's monstrosity
  9. men cannot follow simple directions printed on the parking pass, but insist on going the way they "know"
  10. that way is not faster
  11. first football game i've ever sat WITH ryan--it was fun, porter definitley enjoyed sitting with daddy!
  12. drew brees is awsome
  13. superdome seats are comfortable
  14. men cannot follow directions =)

football time

Porter and I went to Starkville this past weekend for the Mississippi State/Jackson State game!
We had a great time and got to see lots of friends who we haven't seen in a while! Porter Loved the game and was so good the entire weekend! Hopefully we'll make it back up to a few more!

It was definitely weird being there without Ryan, but we were happy to see our friends who still work there get a big win!

Porter and Paula on Friday night at The Veranda--Porter loves Paula, and hadn't seen her in months! with Courtney who we haven't seen in over a year!!
before the game--before the bottom fell out and we both got SOAKED!
Porter was so excited ;)
**the day before, we went to the junction to set up our tent, and as soon as we got out of the car, Porter kept pointing to the stadium and yelling, "daddy footbaww, daddy footbaww!!" He was so excited about being back at the stadium =)
after the rain--we were soaked! It started raining hard right as everyone else was trying to get into the stadium/to their seats and we were stuck! we tried to get to the concourse but ended up standing in the pouring rain for about 10minutes before we could get to cover! I was miserable but Porter loved every minute of it, the BOY that he is!
all the excitement wore Porter out! He fell asleep about mid-way through the 3rd quarter and slept for about an hour in the seats at the tailgate!

ryan has a shadow...

Porter LOVES his daddy! He always calls out for "mama" in the mornings when he wants to get up but as soon as I get him out of his bed, he immediately says, "where daddy?" and "i want to get daddy bed" (meaning I want to go get in the bed with daddy!) =)
Ryan was mowing the grass the other afternoon, and Porter had to go out with him to "help". You can tell by these pictures that Porter is definitely ALL boy! Just fifteen minutes outside, and he was DIRTY, sweaty, and red-faced...and could not have been happier!

After bath's Porter dragged his daddy to the bedroom to watch Mickey with him...when I walked in this is what I found!! Porter had to be exactly like his daddy =)

These pictures definitely remind me that Porter isn't so much of a baby anymore, but is a big boy! I am going to miss the baby, but having a little (big) boy sure is fun too!

potty training 101

Well, the time has finally come!! I have been so dreading this and was hoping to "hold off" for a little while longer--POTTY TRAINING!

It's not that I wanted Porter in diapers forever, but I really wanted to wait until he was really ready so it would be a quick & easy process and not a months long ordeal!
Well, Porter recently started "school" and is one of the youngest in his class, so needless to say most of the kids are potty trained. When I picked Porter up last week, the teacher mentioned that he had not had a wet diaper ALL day (he goes from 9:30-2:30) and that he might be a little dehydrated...I thought this was odd since he had 2 glasses of milk before school and he had drank all of his water at school??! Before we even got home, poor thing had FILLED his diaper up! I quickly realized that he had been holding it ALL day, probably because he didn't want to get his diaper changed since none of the other kids were!!

So on Monday we took a trip to target for him to pick out some "big boy" underwear and a few toys (luckily for me there were tons of spiderman items in the big $1 bin--and spiderman is porter's new obsession!). So we got some diego underwear that he was so excited about until we got home...he didn't want to wear them, he just wanted to "watch daygo"!

We wore "daygo" all day yesterday and did pretty good! He just kept wanting his diaper back on. So today after school we came home, used the potty, and then put our big boy underwear on. And he did so good!! I did ask him about 10 million times if he needed to go potty, and he let me know both times that he needed to go!!!

So I think our first day was a success!!

Not that I think it's going to be this easy from here on out, but hopefully he'll start getting the hang of it!

I know he'll kill me for these pictures one day!!!!

He HAS to have a book when he's on his potty (and "reads" it to himself outloud)

He usually does NOT want mommy in the bathroom with him and usually says "bye mama, close mama" meaning leave and close the door!
but since I had the camera, I was more than welcome..such a little ham

Now, when it was time for "business" he covered himself with his curtain and hid!

***If you notice he's wearing his NEW ($1) spiderman socks--his "treat" for using the potty this afternoon!

lawn boy

isn't this the sweetest face??

everytime he sees a camera he says "cheeese"and puts the biggest smile on--wrinkled up nose and all!
It has been so hot here, and the mosquitos are terrible!! So needless to say we haven't spent much time outdoors. It's finally cooled off some this week for us to enjoy the backyard!
Porter loves "mowing" the grass...probably because he sees Ryan do it twice a week since it grows so fast!!

Porter's first day of School!

he wanted to sleep in...we're going to have to work on getting up earlier for school (it doesn't even start until 9:30!)

I'm going where???

there's going to be toys, games, and snacks?! I'm there!

but I can't take my toys...now i'm not so sure?!

getting our shoes on for the big day (Porter started to have a slight meltdown at this point when we were trying to take his toys away!)

...also panicked because he thought we were leaving him at home!

all is good and we're out the door!

Porter and Mommy

Thumbs up with Daddy

off to school!

he found the toy bin immediately!

Porter did so good!! He was a little nervous when we got there and walked him in, but as soon as he saw his classroom he wanted to run and play! He didn't even cry when we left...there was a viewing window (where he couldn't see us) so we watched him for about 10 minutes, and he was having the best time!!
Hopefully he'll get a good "report card" today!!

Porter's idea of "jumping rope"

it's too hot!

We took Porter to the park today, and he was all over the place...as you can see by the ONE picture I got!
He is getting to be such a big boy now! He refuses to wear jon-jon's anymore and that makes me so sad, he only wants to wear "surts, mama, surts" (shirts) =( I did con him into one today by telling him if he put it on, we were going to the park...only because that was about the only clean thing in his closet that fits!

After his nap, I asked him if he wanted to go play outside; he got real excited and ran and got his shoes for me to put on!
I opened up the back door, and before even taking a full step outside, he slammed the door and said, "hot, no 'side mama" and refused to go! He came back inside and took his shoes off!! It was even too hot for mr. outside!!
After supper, he finally decided that it was "cool" enough to go outside--sunglasses and all!

Before bed tonight, he brought me my camera and said "cheese, mama...do porter cheese" meaning- "take my picture so I can see" =)
this is the result:

Porter-2 years old!

I stole this pic from my grandmother's facebook (yes, my grandmother has facebook--she even plays mafia wars on it =))

Porter finally had his 2 yr. check up a couple weeks ago!
I've been carrying around his "stats" in my purse on a piece of paper so I thought I better post them before I forget (since it's obviously not going in his baby book ;))

28 lbs. (50th percentile)
36" (75th percentile!)

Yes, you read that right he was in the 75th percentile for height! Now if you know me and Ryan, this might seem like a surprise! I even asked the Dr. was that going by a 24 month old (since he was already 26months old) and she said no, that's his percentile's for his age!

We really liked our new pediatrician and she said Porter is in great health, and is right on target for his development!

He is talking up a storm now!
He LOVES:
cheese
unge juucce (orange juice)
water ice (ice water)
mickey mouse
spidey! (spiderman)
planes! (he loved our plane ride last week!)
to eat =)
to give hugs and kisses
dance (i'll post a video soon)
playing hide & seek
sleep (mommy loves this one)--sleeps in until at least 8am every morning and takes a 3 hr nap most days!
he wants to do EVERYTHING HIMSELF! Always saying "Porter do it!"

He is so much fun right now!

***Speaking of his well check up...Yesterday I got our monthly statement from our Insurance company, letting us know what we had used, etc. and what our insurance had paid out for services. So this month Porter's well check up was on there...and I was SHOCKED to see what a WELL CHILD checkup (with ONE vaccination) cost $404!!! Luckily we only paid our $15 co-pay but come on, that is ridiculous!
